Project Essence

Project Essence

This project was a part of Product Design course by Projector Institute. On the course we were studying general Product Design and applied knowledge on practice by working on real project for client - AJAX Systems.

My Role:
My role on this project was a Product and UX/UI Designer in end to end design process. I performed qualitative research interviews, designed start-to-end interface solutions, collaborated with design team on iterating of separate flows and conducted usability testing with AJAX team. In the end our design team presented the final solution to AJAX team.

The Client and Their Problem

The Client and Their Problem

Ajax Systems is a Ukrainian technology company that develops wireless and wired security systems and is the largest manufacturer of security systems in Europe, with over 4 million users in 187 countries.

AJAX have an open beta program for testing their devices close to release. This is specifically open beta, which goes after their closed beta where they test products for every cases and scenarios in strictly controlled conditions. Open beta on the other hand is different, this beta goes among regular, chosen by team users. They gather a number of testers and give them devices for testing. The testing lasts for a few weeks, usually up to a month, during which time the testers should complete several test cases specified by the AJAX developers and submit reports for the testing period. This final testing allows the team to polish the device, find and fix bugs, as well as refine the user experience after receiving real-world feedback and seeing real user interaction with the device.

Understanding, Research,
Problem Framing

This project was quite different as, in order to define the direction of the solution, I had to heavily consider the specifics of the screen hardware and the environment in trains.
And in general, this type of interface is very different from conventional mobile or desktop interfaces.

This project began when my mother came to Warsaw and I needed to teach her how to navigate in metro. Before that, I barely ever looked at screens in trains because I never really needed to use them. But when my mother used them for the first time, I noticed how idifficult t was for her to understand the interface of the screens and find necessary information. That was the moment when I noticed all the problems of the UI and decided to improve it.

Iteration 1

The new look of the current/next station gives prominence to the station name. Districts element was redesigned to make it less eye-catching and distracting. The contact info and date are now more space efficient and less distractive
